The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), in collaboration with the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the National Office for Science Advice (ONAC) in Spain, is organizing a two-day training program in Madrid at the Complejo de la Moncloa, the Presidential Complex of the Government of Spain. This program is designed for scientists eager to deepen their understanding of policy processes and make a meaningful impact on policymaking in the Mediterranean region.
Why Apply?
The Mediterranean region faces complex challenges such as climate change, water scarcity, energy supply, and food sustainability. Scientific insights are crucial to addressing these issues and supporting policymaking with advanced knowledge, context, and available options. However, interactions with governments and institutions require specialized knowledge not yet integrated into scientific curricula.
This training will:
• Introduce the Policymaking Process: Provide a comprehensive understanding of how science can inform policy decisions.
• Enhance Communication Skills: Teach you how to effectively share research findings with policymakers and broader audiences.
• Navigate Science-Policy Interaction: Explore strategies to overcome challenges specific to the science-policy interface in the Mediterranean.
Who Should Apply?
This training is open to researchers, PhD candidates, and experts working in science-related fields who are interested in science for policy and evidence-based policymaking. Experts and researchers from all disciplines are welcome to apply.
The Union for the Mediterranean will fully cover travel and accommodation expenses for 20 participants. To be eligible, participants must come from non-EU member states of the Union for the Mediterranean (South and East Mediterranean) in accordance with Union for Mediterranean eligibility rules.
