HORIZON EUROPE-CLUSTER 5-Destination 4: Efficient, sustainable and inclusive energy use-Second Calls of 2021

Call Description:
As stated in the Horizon Europe Strategy, the goal of this destination is expected to contribute to the use of efficient and sustainable energy accessible for all with a clean energy system and a just transition.
The activities targeting notably a more efficient use of energy in buildings and industry are an important part of this destination such as:
- Technological and socio-economic breakthroughs for achieving climate neutrality and the transition to zero pollution of the building stock by 2050,
- Increased energy efficiency in industry and reducing industry’s Greenhouse Gas (GHG) and air pollutant emissions through recovery, upgrade and/or conversion of industrial excess (waste) heat and through electrification of heat generation.
The calls that were opened within the scope of this destination have been collected under two main topics but the second calls of 2021 are only related to the Highly Energy-efficient and Climate-neutral European Building Stock topic.
Special Conditions:
Unless otherwise provided for in the specific call conditions, legal entities forming a consortium are eligible to participate in actions provided that the consortium includes:
- at least one independent legal entity established in a Member State; and
- at least two other independent legal entities, each established in different Member States or Associated Countries.

Call Description:
Destination 3: Sustainable, Secure and Competitive Energy Supply aims to be obtained more performant renewable energy solutions by providing a more efficient, clean, sustainable, safe and competitive energy supply. In this context, in order to strengthen the place of Europe in the global chain and to reach the expected performance on this field;
- Energy systems and energy storage,
- Smart and cyber secure grids,
- Carbon Capture, Use and Storage (CCUS) are emerging as key players.
The calls open within the scope of this destination have been collected under four main topics:
Global leadership in renewable energy: Under this topic, it is aimed to raise awareness by developing projects with low-cost and high-efficiency renewable energy technologies instead of fossil-based energy technologies. The calls of the third period of 2021 are completely related to Global Leadership in Renewable Energy topic.

Energy systems, grids and storage: The main expected issues from the proposals under this topic are;
- Development of flexible energy systems and grids that provide stability in different conditions,
- Improved energy storage technologies, in particular heat storage,
- Standardization of devices that can share / exchange data between energy service providers,
- Enhance consumer satisfaction and increase system flexibility,
- New electricity transmission technologies and solutions developed for the transportation of offshore wind energy are gathered under this heading
- Enhance consumer satisfaction and increased system flexibility thanks to enabling consumers to benefit from data-driven energy services and facilitating their investment and engagement in the energy transition.

Carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS): Under this topic, it is expected to submit project proposals that will support the integration of CCUS into high emission industrial centres and hubs at the most affordable cost. Related calls of this topic are HORIZON-CL5-2021-D3-02-12 and 13.
Cross-cutting issues: This topic was opened in order to prevent the problems of duplication in overlapping areas and to establish an effective communication mechanism between the relevant parties. Related calls of this topic are HORIZON-CL5-2021-D3-02-14 and 15.

Legal and financial set-up of the Grant Agreements
Beneficiaries may provide financial support to third parties. At least 60% of budget must be distributed in the form of grants to third parties. The maximum amount to be granted to each third party is EUR 75 000. This amount is justified as providing grants to third parties is the primary activity of the action and this amount is necessary to fund projects of sufficient scale.
Technology Readiness Level
Activities are expected to achieve TRL 2-6 by the end of the project.

Eligibility conditions
The page limit of the application is 10 pages. Applicants must submit a short online application that includes a description of the business plan, along with a clearly defined growth strategy respectful of inclusion and gender-balance, and a description of the activities planned for the following five years. The proposal must also include a brief video pitch.
Legal and financial set-up of the Grant Agreements
Participation is limited to early-stage deep tech start-ups founded, or co-founded by women, holding a top management position (CEO, CTO or equivalent) in the company at the time of submission. The applying legal entity must be registered and established in an EU Member State or a Horizon Europe Associated Country for at least six months at the time of the submission. All deep tech domains are eligible.
Expected EU contribution per project
Funding for grants awarded under this topic will take the form of a fixed lump sum of EUR 0,075 million.

Call Description:
Eurogia launches the Call 18, which will be closed on the 30th of September, 2021.
The Eurogia scope has been extended to two new topics, Environmental Issues and Bioresources, which will be added to the classic Eurogia scope, that you may find in the Eurogia2030 Technology Roadmap.
The scope for the Call 18 will include:
- Offshore Wind turbines, bioenergy, solar panels, fuel cells power to-X, energy storage
- Hydrogen Fuel cell (production, storage, station)
- CO2 Capture, Sequestration and Utilization

Special Conditions:
- The consortium must comprise at least two industrial companies-Large, Small or Medium sized enterprises- from two different EUREKA Member and Associated countries. The active participation of research institutes or universities is strongly encouraged when not made mandatory.
- EUROGIA2030 projects must clearly show technical innovation in the future product/process or service (either through using new devices or in the utilization of existing devices in a new application).
- The project must have a strong market and exploitation orientation.
- The contribution from any given country must not exceed 66% of the total budget. In parallel, the contribution from any one partner (affiliated organisations count as one partner) must not exceed 66% of the total budget either.
