The Secretariat of the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS) has announced the 6th International Training Course on Industrial Synthetic Biotechnology (ITC-ISB). The prestigious capacity-building program is organized by the Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology (TIB), Chinese Academy of Sciences—an esteemed COMSATS Centre of Excellence—under the platform of the COMSATS Joint Center for Industrial Biotechnology (CCIB).
The course is tentatively scheduled to be held in October 2026 in Tianjin, China. Since its inception in 2019, this training series has successfully trained over 190 young scholars and researchers from 32 countries.
Main Components of the Program
- Technical Courses: Covering basic theories, methodologies, and technological advancements in synthetic biotechnology (including foundational technologies for engineering biology), and its applications in green biosynthesis of chemicals, microbial recombinant synthesis of natural products, biomanufacturing of future food/feed protein, development of agricultural biologicals, and C1 bioconversion.
- Experimental Courses: Hands-on, well-designed synthetic biology experiments to enhance technical proficiency.
- Site Visits: Guided access to TIB’s state-of-the-art research facilities and selected leading biotechnology enterprises in China.
Financial Support and Funding
The program offers comprehensive financial sponsorship for eligible and selected participants, which includes:
- Round-trip economy-class air tokens,
- Full local hospitality (including accommodation, meals, and relevant local transportation),
- 100% tuition fee waiver.

Interested and eligible scientists and researchers should submit their application documents directly to CCIB@tib.cas.cn, with an official intimation (CC) to the COMSATS Secretariat at farhan@comsats.org and tanzeel@comsats.org.
