The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has announced to all Member States, subsidiary organs, and affiliated institutions the commencement of the nomination process for the 2028 King Faisal Prize, initiated by the Prize’s General Secretariat. According to the official notification, nominations are invited in two primary categories: "Service to Islam" and "Islamic Studies". The specific topic designated for the 2028 Islamic Studies Prize is "Muslim Heritage in Andalusia," while the Service to Islam Prize will honor individuals who have made pioneering intellectual or practical contributions to the Muslim world.
The guidelines and requirements for submissions have also been detailed. Nominations must be submitted by universities, academic bodies, research centers, or Islamic organizations; individual self-nominations and submissions from political parties will not be accepted. Nominees must be living, and their submitted works must be published, demonstrating scientific excellence and enriching human knowledge. The prize package for each category includes a 24-karat, 200-gram gold medal, a certificate written in Arabic calligraphy summarizing the winner's achievements, and a cash award of 750,000 Saudi Riyals (approximately 200,000 USD).
Interested bodies are instructed to submit nominations directly to the King Faisal Prize Secretariat—either online via its official portal (kingfaisalprize.org/nominations) or by email (nominations@kingfaisalprize.org)—rather than through the OIC General Secretariat. The deadline for all nominations is March 31, 2027. The winners will be announced in January 2028 and presented with their awards during an official ceremony held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
