Proteins play a key role in biological processes that maintain life. Although they are three-dimensional molecules, they can be represented in textual form as sequences of amino acids that can be considered to be written in a specific language, also called the language of life. In LifeLU Project Assoc. Prof. Arzucan ÖZGÜR and her team aims to provide a basis for a better understanding of the language of life by developing innovative methods to identify the smallest units of information in proteins (which are analogous to words in human languages) and to determine their meaning (functions). ÖZGÜR's project proposal was supported within the scope of TÜBİTAK's ERC Principal Investigator Advancement Program.
