The ERC 2025 Work Programme has been published. The programme includes details on funding opportunities, the budget and schedule of calls, and application requirements. With a budget of over €2.7 billion, it aims to support approximately 1161 frontier research projects.

The Starting Grant call (ERC-2025-StG) will be the first call and it is expected to open on 10 July 2024 with a deadline of 15 October 2024. This call will support ground breaking and ambitious project ideas from principal investigators who defended their doctoral thesis between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2022, and have proven their ability to conduct independent research. The call, with a budget of €751 million, aims to support approximately 483 projects from all fields of research (with €1.5-2.5 million per project).
Immediately following this, the Synergy Grant call (ERC-2025-SyG)is expected to open on 11 July 2024 with a deadline of 6 November 2024. This call aims to bring together the complementary skills, knowledge, and resources of at least two and up to four principal investigators to address ambitious scientific questions. The call will allocate a budget of €500 million to support approximately 48 projects (with €10-14 million per project).
The Consolidator Grant call (ERC-2025-CoG) is expected to open on 26 September 2024 with a deadline of 14 January 2025. This call will support ground breaking and ambitious project ideas from principal investigators who defended their doctoral thesis between January 1, 2013, and December 31, 2017, and are in the process of strengthening their research programs and teams. With a budget of €719 million, the call aims to support approximately 354 projects (with €2-3 million per project).
Finally, the Advanced Grant call (ERC-2025-AdG) is expected to open on 22 May 2025 with a deadline of 28 August 2025. This call will support groundbreaking and ambitious project ideas from scientists who have made significant contributions to their field and are recognized leaders in the scientific community. With a budget of €683 million, the call plans to support approximately 276 projects (with €2.5-3.5 million per project). This work programme introduces new grounds for extending the eligibility periods for Starting Grant and Consolidator Grant calls. Extensions will be granted in duly documented cases where the applicant has been prevented from working or their working hours have been reduced due to a disability or a major natural or man-made disaster.
