During last year's 27th United Nations Climate Conference (COP 27), the decision to establish the Loss and Damage Fund was made. This step, long-awaited by developing countries most affected by the impacts of climate change, aims to provide financial assistance to nations impacted by extreme events such as rising sea levels, heatwaves, desertification, and forest fires.

To address questions regarding the creation of this fund, the countries contributing, and how the funds obtained will be distributed to compensate for losses and damages, The South Centre invites academics, doctoral students, and policymakers to submit their articles.

Deadline for Abstract Submission: September 1, 2023

Announcement of Results: September 8, 2023

Deadline for Final Paper Submission: October 15, 2023

The South Centre will review articles that adhere to the appropriate format and offer a prize of $1,000 USD for the best-completed article meeting publication standards. Abstracts can be emailed to cui@southcentre.int, with a maximum of 700 words.
