
Webinars planned throughout this spring are designed as bite-sized, targeted sessions that will equip the audience with key information and knowledge of where and how to access more details or expertise.
The European Commission’s ambition in relation to citizen engagement with Mission Ocean falls under a handful of clear themes. Each of the webinars in this series is structured around one of these themes. Overall, the series will equip the audience with the knowledge required to orient project proposals towards restoration, anti-pollution, and other related activities regarding the Mission’s targets in relation to citizen engagement.

Webinar 7: Fostering Marine Citizenship for Mission Ocean

Marine citizenship is an emerging concept to describe peoples’ right to participate in the transformation of the human-ocean relationship for sustainability. This webinar will outline how marine citizenship can be understood and how a project around supporting, measuring and evaluating it might be designed, specifically to achieve the targets of Mission Ocean and the UN Ocean Decade.
Webinar 8: Positioning Fishers as Core Partners for Mission Ocean Projects

Fishers are one of the key stakeholder groups active across European waters. They are also some of the most knowledgeable and skilled communities when it comes to engaging with those ecosystems. This webinar will draw on the experience of both researchers and fishers’ representatives of how both groups can work together successfully to deliver impactful projects in spaces such as technology development, Marine Protected Areas, and pollution control.
Webinar 9: Engaging Children and Young People in Mission Ocean
Date/time: Wednesday 24th April, 1pm CEST, Online
Including young people in decision making processes and in aquatic projects is a key aim of various international frameworks, such as Mission Ocean. This webinar will outline the specific issues and challenges around engaging young people in marine, environment, sustainability-related projects, and how they might be overcome. It will also include the voices of young people who have participated in relevant projects in the past, to get a sense of their own experience of such processes.
PREP4BLUE is a project funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe, which aims to achieve the Mission Ocean objectives and prepare the ground for inspiring and engaging citizens and stakeholders.
