EU Sparks for Climate: Citizen Hackathon Championship is looking for committed citizens and researchers to join forces and participate in this virtual competition for the valorization of knowledge and the development of technological and social innovation solutions to address climate challenges and support two of the missions established by the European Union: the EU Mission on Climate Change Adaptation and the EU Mission on Climate Neutral and Smart Cities.
From May to June 2024, 22 virtual local hackathons will be held by the teams formed of citizens and researchers from all EU Member States and 6 Associated Countries that will participate. There will be 2 winning teams for each local hackathon, 44 in total. These teams will receive a specific training and coaching program to sharpen their skills with learning modules on management, entrepreneurship, sustainability, social impact, research valorization and intellectual property. After the training and coaching, the teams will present their solutions at the EU final, where 3 winning teams will be selected and will receive cash prizes (5,000€ for each winning team). They will also receive, for example, personalized mentoring, support for a crowdfunding campaign, access to the angel investor network and support to scale up their solution.
To participate, citizens must first present a climate challenge that they consider relevant to their community, city or region, while researchers must contribute with their expertise to team up with citizens and join forces to develop solutions. The hackathons, co-organized by local hosts in different cities across Europe, will take place virtually over four days, using a proprietary methodology that will encourage networking, dynamization and innovation processes.
In the case of the Türkiye Hackathon, the organization of the hackathon is supported by TÜBİTAK as local host and will take place from 5 to 8 June. TÜBİTAK is looking for citizens and researchers committed with the development of new solutions to climate challenges
