The Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership (SBEP) has launched the second wave of its call for Regional Portfolios of Projects, established to strengthen cooperation among research and innovation projects across different European sea basins.
Under the second wave, applications are invited for the Baltic Sea, North Sea and Mediterranean Sea Regional Portfolios. Of particular relevance to Türkiye, the theme of the Mediterranean Sea Regional Portfolio is “Fostering Inclusive Governance and Multi-use Coastal and Maritime Infrastructure for Sustainable Development in the Mediterranean Sea.”
The Portfolio will focus on two complementary research areas:
Governance, participation and coastal development
Multi-use coastal and maritime infrastructure systems
Applications to the Mediterranean Sea Regional Portfolio are open not only to projects funded by SBEP, but also to research and innovation projects funded under EU, national or regional programmes and relevant to the Mediterranean Sea. Applicant projects must align with at least one of the Portfolio’s sub-themes and remain active for at least six months during the period from January 2027 to early 2029.
A maximum of 15 projects will be included in each Regional Portfolio. Selected projects will participate in joint activities, knowledge and experience exchange, and efforts to strengthen regional cooperation during the 2027–2029 period.
Applications must be submitted by 9 December 2026 at 15:00 CET. Selected projects are expected to be announced in January 2027.
An online Information Day will be held on 7 October 2026, from 13:00 to 14:30 CEST, to provide further information on the call and application process. The Regional Portfolios will be presented during the event, and participants will have the opportunity to ask questions.
