The final of EU Sparks for Climate – the EU-wide competition of joint teams of researchers and citizens building solutions for climate adaptation and mitigation – is coming up. The winners of the Ankara hackathon hosted by TÜBİTAK will compete in an event on 10-11 October, where the three winning teams of the European Citizens’ Hackathon Championship will be selected.
Over the past six months, EU Sparks for Climate has brought together more than 300 young people, students, researchers, innovators, and citizens across 14 events. A total of 74 teams from 22 EU Member States and 7 Horizon Europe Associated Countries have collaborated to turn research and knowledge into practical solutions for tackling climate change in their communities, while helping to achieve the objectives of the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change and of the EU Mission on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities.
TÜBİTAK played an essential role by hosting one of the local hackathons. Now, we are keen to stand by our winning teams and support them during the final.
On 10 October the winning teams from the local hackathons will have the opportunity to present their solutions to a broad audience. Citizens, researchers, innovators, policy makers, local authorities, entrepreneurs, investors and other stakeholders will have the chance to engage with the teams and learn more about their projects and how they will help address climate change. Experts from the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change and the EU Mission on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities will join the discussion and explore how the developed innovation solutions support the objectives of these Missions.
On 11 October the teams will showcase their solutions online to a jury panel of high-level experts gathered in Brussels to select the three teams that will become the European Citizens Hackathon Champions!
