FUTURE4PRIMA project is establishing a Stakeholder Board to drive forward a comprehensive vision for the renewed Partnership on Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA).
  11 July 2024

The Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA) is an EU Institutionalized Partnership established to tackle challenges such as water scarcity and food security in the Mediterranean region. Initiated by Participating States and officially ratified by the European Commission on July 4, 2017, PRIMA operates under Article 185 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU). This partnership combines the financial resources of the European Union and 20 Participating States, including 12 EU Member States and eight non-EU countries, to promote research and innovation for sustainable and resilient water and food systems.

Since its inception, PRIMA has fostered scientific cooperation among EU, North African, and Middle Eastern countries. Initially set to conclude under the Horizon 2020 framework by December 31, 2028, PRIMA’s activities have been extended under the Horizon Europe framework (2025-2027) by EU Decision (EU) 2024/1167.

The FUTURE4PRIMA project, funded under Horizon Europe’s WIDERA call, aims to co-create and implement research and innovation initiatives within a renewed partnership under the upcoming Framework Programme (FP10). This project will identify research and innovation priorities to address the intertwined challenges of climate change, pandemics, and conflicts impacting already strained resources (water, soil, energy).
