We have received questions on topic HORIZON-CL5-2026-10-D2-03: Integrated Production and Product Development for Next-Generation Lithium-based Batteries for Mobility (BATT4EU and Made in Europe Partnerships).
Question 1: For a battery system integrated into a vessel, is there any guidance on whether a controlled water-testing facility could be considered a relevant or operational environment or whether demonstration under open-water operating conditions would be expected?
- Reply: There is no strict obligation to integrate the pack into a vessel; a test bench simulating the operating conditions and profiles would also be an acceptable approach. Nevertheless, please bear in mind that your choice of testing platform and its adequacy will be taken into consideration during the evaluation of the proposal.
Question 2: Does the requirement to establish pilot manufacturing capability imply the construction of a new pilot line, or could the required capability also be developed by adapting or upgrading an existing manufacturing facility?
- Reply: Adapting or upgrading an existing pilot line are acceptable approaches, however please take note of the requirement to develop processing methods and machinery compatible with high-throughput manufacturing.
