
The EU-Türkiye Horizon Europe Joint Research and Innovation Committee Meeting of 2024 was held on April 24, and hosted by TÜBİTAK in Istanbul, with the participation of the TÜBİTAK President Mr. Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal and Deputy Director-General Ms. Signe Ratso, DG Research and Innovation.
As the latest situation regarding our country's participation in the Horizon Europe Program was evaluated, meeting started with the opening speeches of Mr. Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal and Ms. Signe Ratso. Steps that can be taken to deepen Türkiye's cooperation with the EU in the field of science, research and innovation were discussed, to determine research priorities and to improve its applications in the Horizon Europe Program.
In addition, our country's current performance in the Horizon Europe Program was conveyed, in addition to evaluations on our country's participation in the Horizon Europe calls, benefits accumulated, difficulties faced and reciprocity discussions. 1107 stakeholders from our country have been involved in 486 projects so far in the Horizon Europe Program, which started in 2021, and it has been stated that a total budget of 243.4 million Euros has been provided.
Following the opening speeches, cooperation and better participation in the COST Program, implementation of national support measures and updates on programs specific to the Digital destinations in the Horizon Europe Program were discussed. Increased cooperation opportunities with Türkiye's participation in research infrastructures, European Partnerships and EU Missions have been also evaluated.
Parallel to the meeting, Mr. Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal and Ms. Signe Ratso made a visit to “ERICSSON Research Türkiye”, with the participation of Işıl Yalçın, ERICSSON Türkiye CEO. Examinations were made at Ericsson Research Türkiye Laboratory within the scope of this visit.
Afterwards, Mr. Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal and Ms. Signe Ratso visited Koç University, accompanied by Vice Rectors Mr. Hakan Ürey and Ms. Funda Yağcı Acar, which is the second institution that has received the most grants in the Horizon Europe Program so far from Türkiye. Further examinations were made at Koç University Research Center for Translational Medicine (Kuttam) and other laboratories. In addition to evaluations of the projects within the scope of the Horizon Europe Program carried out at Koç University, further areas of development were also discussed.
