The Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking is a public-private partnership, launched under the Horizon Europe Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, between the European Union represented by the European Commission and the European aviation sector. Running from 2021 until 2031, its total budget will exceed 4.1 billion€, of which 1.7 billion€ will be funded by the European Union.
The Clean Aviation JU (CAJU) will develop disruptive new aircraft technologies to help achieve climate neutrality by 2050. The technology development and demonstration will allow the deployment of new aircraft with 30 to 50 percent lower emissions than today’s aircraft, no later than 2035, and enable 75% of the world’s civil aviation fleet to be replaced by 2050. When combined with the use of sustainable fuels the aircraft developed will enable net CO2 reductions of up to 90%, or zero CO2 emissions in flight when using hydrogen as energy source.
The CAJU is now seeking experts for its Scientific Advisory Body. A full text of the Call for Expression of Interest can be found here. Candidates should have a University degree in a relevant scientific area (preferably at post-graduate level), and at least 15 years of professional experience and competence in a field relevant to the challenge of significantly reducing aviation’s climate impact.
