
Within the scope of the "Climate Neutral and Smart Cities Mission" (shortly known as the Cities Mission), launched within the scope of the Horizon Europe Programme, which is the world's largest budgeted civil R&D and innovation program created in line with the main priorities of the European Union, with the aim of ensuring the transition to climate neutrality in 100 European cities by 2030. Research and innovation activities aimed at developing medium and long-term environmentally friendly and sustainable policies are supported. In this context, efforts are made to facilitate cities' access to financial instruments in order to establish the necessary infrastructure and capacity development. “CAPACITIES Project” supported by the European Commission through a call opened under the Cities Mission; aims to increase the capacity of national, regional and local governments towards urban climate-neutral transformations. TÜBİTAK, as the responsible institute of coordination of the Horizon Europe Program in Türkiye and is also a partner of the CAPACITIES Project, aims to establish facilitating conditions and measures for Turkish stakeholders by supporting the relevant public institutions for the establishment of national networks and management structures and the implementation of the Cities Mission.
The project, which organised by TÜBİTAK International Cooperation Department, European Union Framework Programs Directorate, on October 5, 2023, at the Istanbul Congress Center, within the scope of the Marmara Urban Forum (MARUF), with the participation of experts from Europe and Türkiye. "Opportunities of the Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities Mission for Turkish Local Authorities” Event will be organized in order to share experience among cities about the activities aiming to be climate neutral and give information about financial opportunities offered.
In the different sessions to be held within the scope of the event, there will be various presentations and speeches of leading representatives from Turkish and European Cities working towards climate neutrality, the EU Delegation to Turkey, the Republic of Turkey. Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Directorate for European Union Affairs, European Investment Bank (EIB), European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Bank of Provinces (ILBANK), Marmara Union of Municipalities, experts from CAPACITIES and DUT Projects.
