The ERC 2027 Consolidator Grant Call is now open for applications. Applications can be submitted until 12 January 2027.
The call aims to support ambitious and frontier research projects led by researchers who have established scientific independence, have creative and original ideas, are in the process of consolidating their independent research programmes, and completed their PhD defence 5-15 years ago.
Eligibility
Under the 2027 Work Programme, the eligibility periods for the ERC Starting Grant and Consolidator Grant have been extended, with the eligibility windows for the two calls partially overlapping.
Researchers who completed their PhD defence between 1 January 2012 and 31 December 2021 are eligible to apply for the ERC-2027-CoG call. This period covers the 5-15 years preceding the reference date of 1 January 2027.
Researchers who completed their PhD defence between 1 January 2017 and 31 December 2026 are eligible to apply for the ERC-2027-StG call. This period covers the 0-10 years preceding the reference date of 1 January 2027.
Researchers who are eligible for both the StG and CoG calls may apply to only one of the two 2027 calls. Researchers are advised to select the call that best matches their level of project maturity and academic track record. They are also encouraged to consult the ERC National Contact Point regarding the choice of call.
The eligibility period may be extended in accordance with the relevant rules in cases such as parental leave, military service, long-term illness and other special circumstances recognised by the ERC.
Funding and Support
Successful projects can receive up to €2 million for a period of 5 years.
An additional €1 million may be requested to cover justified costs such as major equipment purchases or extensive fieldwork.
Researchers working in Third Countries (e.g. the USA, Canada or Japan) who plan to relocate to an EU Member State or Associated Country (e.g. Türkiye) to carry out an ERC project may receive up to €2 million in additional funding for “start-up” activities, such as setting up a laboratory and building a research team. For example, a researcher planning to relocate from the USA to Türkiye with an ERC project may request a total of up to €4 million in funding.
The call therefore offers significant opportunities both for researchers currently working in Türkiye and for researchers based abroad who plan to relocate their research activities to Türkiye.
Call Budget
A total budget of €618 million has been allocated to the ERC 2027 Consolidator Grant Call, with the aim of supporting approximately 296 projects across all scientific fields.
