The whole event focused on participants to build their own proposal as coordinators and build the key points in each section of the application template and understand what makes a winning proposal in this highly competitive call. The interactivity with the audience was ensured through presentations from participants regarding their proposals at the beginning of each training day and “Questions and answers” sessions and the possibility for participants to raise questions at any moment of the presentations, delivered by the Training Expert. Also, “one-to-one” consultations were provided to all participants regarding parts of their proposals they did not want to disclose to the rest.

The event’s content was based on sharing the knowledge of experts in the Venture Capital and Business Angel networks and having a detailed insight into the experience of an international expert who had managed a large SME investment programme in Ireland. There were also presentations from Key Experts in the project relating to the demands of Horizon 2020 and good and bad practices encountered in working with SMEs seeking finance and a case study provided by the founder of a successful SME. A short, interactive session that placed the participants in the role of investors allowed participants to use their acquired knowledge from the event. They were given a brief based on an IT company seeking finance, and they were asked to raise questions that potential investors may ask. The event’s overall objective was to improve the abilities to participate SMEs in pitching for finance by increasing their knowledge of what is required and developing their pitching skills.

More than 450 participants from all over Europe and Turkey joined us in this highly successful event. With 5 parallel workshops and almost 1000 meetings taking place, the event brought together researchers from academia, industry and business to investigate opportunities and new collaborations in Horizon 2020 and forthcoming Horizon Europe.

The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) with the support of the EU-funded project “Turkey in Horizon 2020 Phase II” has the honour of inviting you to the “ICTurkey 2019”, International Brokerage Event in Istanbul on the 5th of July.

The event will target the calls for the Information & Communication Technologies (ICT) and Cross-cutting themes of H2020:

We will bring together up to 300 participants from both research and industrial communities involved in ICT research from the EU and Turkey. This will not only give you the unique opportunity to connect with Turkish and European researchers to discuss H2020 project ideas, but also get first-hand information about the upcoming 2019 – 2020 ICT related calls.

This event will provide an excellent platform to expand your network and create new partnerships for the upcoming calls.

You will be able to present your project ideas and discuss them with potential partners in face-to-face meetings!

Funding will be available to cover the costs of travel and accommodation for up to 100 participants. In order to join this event, you must register and provide your proposal idea and a short description of your organisation.

The first visit took place at the premises of the Institute of Information Technology, CERTH in Thessaloniki.  We aimed to bring together representatives of key institutions and experienced coordinators from major players in Horizon 2020. The Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH), with its Information Technologies Institute (ITI), is one of the most successful organizations in the Secure Societies calls, with more than 200 successfully implemented projects.

The event’s content was based on the three key aspects that EC evaluators follow to assess SMEI proposals. The key aspects were supported by coverage of research methods, market analysis, good practice in converting facts and data into winning proposals, writing techniques, the various requirements in ‘standard’ proposal sections and evaluators’ viewpoints on good practice to attract higher scores. The training included exercises to review and develop sample proposals, then compare notes against a checklist. There were also presentations on Horizon 2020 in general, the SME Instrument in particular and a presentation on working experience with Turkish SMEs seeking to write proposals for SMEI. The event’s overall objective was to improve the abilities to participate SMEs in the development of SMEI proposals by seeking out more relevant information and providing more pertinent details in the content of SMEI proposals.

The 3rd Focused Group Training covered key issues in the full proposal development cycle in H2020 Energy calls starting from introduction to the open call topics, familiarisation with key documents and online platforms under H2020 Energy calls, awareness on networking events and who are the key actors in H2020 Energy, including successful applicants and project implementers. Finally, special focus was given on how to write each of the three sections of the grant application form. The training was concluded with a hands-on practice session where the participant had to select a topic that they wish to get involved from pre-selected ones according to their needs and expectations (e.g. formulating a proposal idea for a specific Energy call, preparing an action plan for identifying and engaging key players in the Energy Area, preparing a pitching email for joining promising consortia, dealing with specific sections in the grant application template, etc.

The 2nd  Focused Group Training covered key issues in the full proposal development cycle in H2020 Security calls starting from introduction to the open call topics, familiarisation with key documents and online platforms under H2020 Secure Societies calls, awareness on networking events and who are the key actors in H2020 Secure Societies, including successful applicants and project implementers. Finally, special focus was given on how to write each of the three sections of the grant application form. The training will be concluded with a Mock-up evaluation workshop where participants will be asked to think like evaluators by evaluating an actual proposal.

The 1st Focused Group Training covered key issues in the full proposal development cycle in Clean Sky calls starting from introduction to the open call topics, familiarisation with key documents under Clean Sky calls,  identification on who are the key actors in the Clean Sky programme, including successful applicants and project implementers, what is the evaluation process as well as tips and tricks, and finally, special focus was given on how to write each of the three sections of the grant application form. The training was concluded with hands-on practice on various topics that each participant selected to deal with during the session. To work on various topics, participants were split into working groups.
