Project Purpose:
ClimOP aims to investigate and develope mitigation strategies towards operational improvements in aviation that minimise negative effects of aviation on climate
Scientific Output/Product/Outcome
- Proposing operational improvements to reduce the climate impact of aviation
- Evaluating the impact of the operational improvements on climate and aviation stakeholders
- Determining a set of harmonized and most-promising mitigation strategies
- Producing policy recommendations to foster the application of mitigation strategies
Tackling Big Global Problems
Air Transport has for a long time been linked to environmental issues like pollution, noise and climate change. Intergovernmental organizations, aircraft manufacturers and operators and the research community are increasingly focusing on different technological, operational and regulatory climate impact mitigation options. In this framework, ClimOP aims to identify, evaluate and support the implementation of mitigation strategies to initiate and foster operational improvements which reduce the climate impact of the aviation sector.
Industrial Innovation (including innovation in products and processes as well as services)
- duce the climate impact
- Improvements in ground operation and infrastructures to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions on airports
- Innovative solutions for air transport network planning
Contribution to the Development of Professional Skills and Professional Abilities
Istanbul Technical University extends its modelling and analysis capabilities in different study areas of avation to climate-related applications.
Contribution to the Development of Human Resources
Within the scope of the project, it is contributed to educate professionals on the area of climate impact of aviation by supporting the graduate students.
