Project Summary: The PRecycling project aims to improve the recycling process of plastic waste to achieve the "zero waste" goal in parallel with the European Union's Green Deal and transition to a circular economy. The project will develop an easy-to-use methodology for separating, sampling, tracking, and recycling plastic waste streams. This method will include standard analysis procedures for both plastic waste materials and recycled materials. The goal of the project is to create high-quality recycled products with safe use, assist in the production of valuable products from these products, and develop a sustainable, transparent, and functional model for the circular economy. The main activities of the project include smart tracking through digital systems, life cycle analysis of products, cost analysis, and product manufacturing.
Scientific Output/Outcome Expected From the Project: The expected scientific outputs from the PRecycling project include the classification, sampling, tracking, recycling of plastic waste and the life cycle analysis of the products. The scientific data obtained from the project will contribute to the development of methodologies used in the plastic waste recycling process, the development of technologies used in the production of recycled materials, and a better understanding of the transition to circular economy.
Target Group of the Project: The target audience of the PRecycling project is the industries that generate and/or recycle plastic waste, the manufacturers and end users of plastic products. In addition, the data from the project will also benefit researchers and related industrial sectors working in the plastic recycling process.
Importance of the project in Tackling Global Challenges: The PRecycling project offers a significant innovation in the management and recycling of waste plastics, which is a major problem on a global scale. The negative effects of waste plastics on the environment and human health are known and innovative approaches are required to solve this problem. The PRecycling project reduces environmental impacts and contributes to a sustainable economy by recovering and reusing waste plastics from the source. Therefore, the project is an important step in tackling a major problem on a global scale.
Scientific/Social/Economic Innovative Contribution: The PRecycling project offers an innovative approach to the recycling and reuse of waste plastics. The main objective of the project is to recover plastic waste from its source and transform these wastes into high-quality reuse products. This reduces environmental impacts, increases economic value and contributes to a sustainable economy. The PRecycling project will also contribute to the development of new services for the recycling and reuse of waste plastics.
Contribution to the Development of Professional Skills: The PRecycling project is leading the industry by offering an innovative method for recycling and reusing waste plastics. Therefore, the project contributes to the development of professional skills and professional abilities. For the realization of the project, experts from various disciplines came together and formed a team. This team will gain significant experience in the recovery and reuse of waste plastics during the project process.
Contribution to the Development of Human Resources: The PRecycling project makes a significant contribution to the development of human resources by offering an innovative and knowledge-based approach for a sustainable future, encouraging knowledge sharing among participants, increasing knowledge and skills. By providing a continuous interaction and learning environment between the project team, partners and stakeholders, it helps the participants to follow the latest developments in the sector and develop their own knowledge. In addition, the training and consultancy services included in the project increase the future career opportunities of the participants by contributing to the development of their professional skills and professional abilities.
Information about other partners of the project: The PRecycling consortium (3 universities, 4 research institutes, 5 SME, 4 LE, 1 association and 1 public organization) has been formed by taking into account these specific requirements leading to a multidisciplinary partnership with widely acknowledged expertise in their respective domains.
18 partners of the consortium cover 9 EU member Countries (including Turkey as an associated country). 7 of them are RTO with strong expertise in the sector; and 5 of them are SMEs and 4 LE with a strong commitment to R&D activities. The PRecycling partners combine high-level scientific knowledge, technological know-how, industrial leadership, but also societal commitment.
