Scientific Outputs

  • Fuel consumption optimization of heavy duty vehicles
  • Development of drive train for heavy duty vehicles
  • Energy efficiency increase under Euro VI standards
  • Consolidation of drive train control with intelligent transport systems on a global scale
  • Real driving trials for different cases and scenarios

Tackling ‘grand’ or societal challenges

Global trends evolves into automated and smart driving systems with utilization of cloud data sources, advanced computing, modelling and simulation. OptiTruck project will fundamentally try to achieve global scale dissemination by developing comprehensive assessment and methodology for the main target of integration of heavy duty vehicle drive control mechanisms and intelligent transport systems.

Industrial Innovation (including innovation in services as well as products and processes)

  • Integration of innovative drive train to intelligent transport systems for heavy duty vehicles
  • Driving test regarding real life conditions: road topography, traffic conditions, transport missions, and vehicle configurations
  • Utilization of cloud-provided data and high performing computing tools for modelling and simulation for before real life tests
  • Fuel consumption optimization via drive train control and calibration

Research-influenced changes in policy, agenda-setting

Under the scope of OptiTruck project, application of intelligent transport systems onto heavy duty vehicles and drive train control mechanisms for fuel efficiency will be developed. After the outcomes of the OptiTruck start to emerge, enormous contribution on national research context is expected via innovations and technology development on heavy duty vehicle intelligence and drive train.

The provision of Improved Public Goods

Especially intelligent transport systems are among most valuable asset of OptiTruck project to public domain where not just for heavy duty vehicles but for all modes and all types of vehicles with growing interest and tendency towards intelligent transport systems. By the way, intelligent transport systems are wide area including infrastructures, traffic management and importantly ‘smart’ vehicles. All those are beneficial for public domain and public services.

The improved exercise of professional skill

Ford Otosan and Okan University is going to acquire advanced powertrain development and intelligent automotive technologies abilities respectively. Under the umbrella of powertrain technologies and intelligent transport systems, comparative methodology development encapsulating demonstration and wide evaluation, real time cloud data, modelling - simulation, high performance computing are professional abilities that can be harvested from OptiTruck project.

Human capital development

Ford Otosan is expected to enhance its engineer's and technician's capability focusing on fuel efficient power train development consolidating with its previous expertise on it.

Okan University is expected to expand its researcher expertise which is previously on passenger cars into new domain of heavy duty vehicles.
