Scientific Outputs

This research action is an interdisciplinary effort including endoscopic device engineering, mechanical and material engineering, tissue mechanics, modelling, biology, and cancer. For this reason, in the scope of the project, besides international scientific publications, it is considered to contribute to the habit of generating a multi-disciplinary working environment.

Tackling ‘grand’ or societal challenges

Therapeutic failure in superficial tissues, such as the mucosal tissues of the gastrointestinal tract, is essentially a result of the depth of inadequate therapeutic effect that causes glandular persistence in some regions. Therefore, there is a need for an endoscopy device that safely, efficiently, single-session and reliably removes the abnormal mucosal tissue layer over large areas. Endoscopy technology developed within the scope of the project has the potential to answer this problem. More interestingly, with our technology, it will be possible to extend the same concept to other endoscopy therapy applications such as colon polyps. This is a feature of the project that will bring diversity to the public health benefit.

Industrial Innovation (including innovation in services as well as products and processes)

The project for the development of advanced technology brings three innovative aspects:

(i) Well-confined therapeutic depth.

(ii) The ability to scan a large mucosa surface in a single-session.

(iii) Therapeutic capsule design for diagnostic applications.

The improved exercise of professional skill

Dr. Tozburun will be one of the few scientists bringing external expertise and cutting-edge research ideas to the ERA particularly in the field of optical science and engineering for diagnosis and therapeutic applications.

Human capital development

Within the scope of this project, it will contribute to the formation of human resources to be involved in R & D studies that produce new technologies in the field of medical diagnosis and treatment at the international level.
