The HARTU project is an industry-led research project addressing the main challenges of part handling, including gripping, assembling, and releasing, using innovative and AI-enhanced technical approaches.
Scientific Output/Outcome Expected From the Project
The goal of the project is to develop an effective and intelligent handling system, which through AI is able to tackle the complexity of different work environments, improve its capabilities over time, and support the workers when it is needed.
The HARTU project will provide components for automatic planning and control of grasping, release, and contact assembly tasks, proposing innovative gripping concepts based on electro-adhesion for the handling of many different products.
This system, which has the ability to work in the same environment with human operators, will also have the ability to identify parts by image processing and barcode reading. Thanks to this new system, the wrong type or wrong number of parts sent in the material shipments in the industrial warehouses will be prevented, and it will be beneficial both in terms of economic and customer satisfaction. In addition, thanks to this system, which can be used in both material warehouses and production lines, ergonomics problems faced by human operators will be avoided.
Target Group of the Project
The project will include the deployment of technologies in five industrially relevant scenarios: automotive, household appliances, hand tool manufacturing, food processing, and logistics. These scenarios offer a wide range of products in terms of shape, material, and size, enabling HARTU to increase the flexibility, reconfigurability, and efficiency of manufacturing lines.
