NoVOC aims to design, demonstrate and compare the two innovative electrode manufacturing technologies: aqueous and dry electrode manufacturing as well as the automotive batteries intended for production in Europe which enabled by electrodes fabricated via environmental and energy efficient manufacturing processes.
Importance in Solving Global Problems
NoVOC aims to address the implementation of an environmentally friendly, non-toxic lithium-ion battery production at pilot scale including battery cell components manufacturing, cell design, and cell assembly processes adopting both aqueous and dry electrode manufacturing processes, significantly decreasing cost and parallel environmental impacts.
Industrial Innovation (including innovation in services as well as products and processes)
Environmentally friendly, VOC free and low cost new generation aqueous and dry electrodes will be produced.
Research-induced Changes in National Policies and Strategies
To bring Europe to the forefront in LIB manufacturing, new production methods are needed which are ‘future-proof’ in terms of safe and sustainable manufacturing. This would not only enable higher investment in production capacity, but also bring Europe to the forefront in cutting edge and safe production technologies for future LIBs. Furthermore, in light of the ambitious EU’s climate targets by 2050, nurturing emerging technologies are particularly needed, such as LIBs to enable zero-emission mobility and renewable energy storage. The NoVOC project takes important steps in the right direction towards zero emission mobility and to sustain the high standard of living in Europe with minimal impact to the health, environment, and global climate.
Contribution to the Development of Professional Skills and Professional Abilities
As Kansai Altan, we will increase our knowledge of binders that can be used in lithium-ion battery electrodes within the scope of this project. In this way, we will be able to contribute to the technologies of batteries produced in Turkey in the future.
