Scientific Outputs

Requirement of energy sustainability and environmental worries force the power systems about technological development. Nowadays in Europe for covering of these environmental requests, first goal is generalization of RES and DG  on the other hand strengthening of smart grid customers and making this subject standard. For developing of these projects main duty is operating of communication infrastructure and ICT tools. In this project, from 7 different country, 11 institutions, companies and universities are working together.

Tackling ‘grand’ or societal challenges

Thanks to the widespread use of ICT, the Smart Grid enables bidirectional communication and power exchange between suppliers and consumers, transforming the traditionally passive end-users into active players (Active Customer Participation). At this early stage, it is important to understand and involve consumers in order for them to successfully assume their new role as active participants in the electric power system. The SmarterEMC2 delivers technology that supports SG services with significant benefits for the consumers. As an example we mention at this point the financial benefits for the consumers. The majority of revenue from DR programs flows to end users and stays within the local communities and builds local businesses.

Industrial Innovation (including innovation in services as well as products and processes)

The project implements and demonstrates innovative technologies for Demand Response services, for the operation of Virtual Power Plants and for the monitoring and control of Microgrids via an Energy Hub platform. These technologies will be demonstrated in relevant environment and their successful validation will pave the way for productification and market uptake.

Human capital development

The project brings together scientists and technologists with various different background knowledge and complementary skills. Their collaboration and exchange of knowledge and good practices is of paramount importance for the achievement of the project objectives. By the end of the project, not only the we will have evidence of the impact of the implemented technologies but also the collaborating research groups will have acquired an extended set of skills and foreground knowledge.
