Project Summary

The Joint Industrial Data Exchange Platform – JIDEP – aiming to provide more sustainable materials, products, services and solutions in a period when the world is turning its direction to the circular economy model. Project target is creating a platform where the data of raw materials that can be obtained by recycling and reused from composite material. The owners of recyclable materials to be registered on this platform, recycling companies and parties that will use the material will be. In the project, which has three different use case; wind turbine blades, automotive equipment and electronic cards. After the material is recycled, if it has the appropriate composition, it can be used as a raw material again in different sectors such as energy, maritime, automotive and informatics.

Many players from different sectors will be able to meet at one point and convey their needs, manufacturers who want to use this recycled raw material will be able to access the entire database and provide the raw material they need through this channel. We aim to contribute to data science, cooperation and the change of substance use habits in the industry through a digital tool.

Scientific Output/Outcome Expected From the Project

The target group of the project is all actors operating in the circular economy and regulating the activities there. The Common Data Sharing Platform, which will be the output of the project, will bring the parties together and facilitate the flow of materials in recycling. Especially in the energy sector, the recycling of wind energy turbine blades aims to be announced to both the business world and the academic circles in fields such as composite materials and recycling, material management, and data science both in our country and in Europe.

Target Group of the Project

The target group of the Project is the parties who want to contribute to the recycling of equipment with composite material. Composite material users, taht is, manufacturers, who will use this composite material as a secondary material after the transformation, will be an important part of the Project. In addition to all these, recycling companies and all parties registered on the platform are in the target group of the project.

Importance of the project in Tackling Global Challenges

The framework of the project is aimed to develop a sustainable value chain by bringing production and supply chain-based solutions to environmental problems, and energy and raw material constraints, which are the most important problems of today. Solutions to this problem improve the use and recycling of raw materials, create appropriate supply chain structures that reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and bring together all these producers, consumers, recyclers, and validators with the help of the data platform. The data platform will play an important role in the creation of recycling and material passports, which will be made within the scope of 3 different usage scenarios. In this way, it is aimed to contribute to carbon emission reduction, recycling, production, and supply chain problems that are on the agenda of all of us globally.

Scientific/Social/Economic Innovative Contribution

As technology and measurability continue to increase in importance, data science holds a significant place in the platform. Along with economic recycling and reuse of materials, raw material management in specific sectors will make a significant contribution to the circular economy. It will be an important platform for our country and all of Europe to transition from a linear economy to a circular economy. Recycling and the circular economy will have a direct and significant environmental impact.

Contribution to the Development of Professional Skills

The project will contribute to the development of the professional skills of R&D team employees, graduate students and company employees working on the project, mainly on the circular economy model, recycling, composite materials, common use platform, material passport, data science, material management.

Contribution to the Development of  Human Resources

Within the scope of the project, contributions will be made to the work on circular economy, wind turbine recycling, and testing of the converted material. In addition to the company employees working on the project, new employees will also be provided with opportunities to learn, acquire knowledge, and conduct research within the project.

Information about other partners in the project

The project is supported by the Horizon Europe framework program and has a budget of approximately 2.2 million Euros. The project is coordinated by Fachhochschule Vorarlberg (FHV - Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences), and a total of 13 different partners from 7 different countries will work within the project. The Turkish partners of the project are Zorlu Enerji, one of Turkey's leading energy investors, and TPI Composites. Among the project partners are the leading universities of Europe, Brunel University London, University of Trento, Unıversıty of Pardubıce and and Unıversıty of Cambrıdge.  The full list of partners involved and contributing to the project can be viewed at https://www.jidep.eu/items
