Scientific Outputs
AffecTech will contribute towards four significant outcomes:
- wearable systems for capturing emotion regulation
- applications for understanding emotions and their regulatory processes
- interactive tools for training adaptive emotion regulation strategies
- theoretical contributions to emotion regulation research in real life
Tackling ‘grand’ or societal challenges
Personalized health is a European priority and one of the strategic research areas for Horizon 2020. This Project advances the state-of-the-art of personal health technologies for affective disorders, estimated to be the highest ranking cause of disease by 2020. It marks a significant shift from the current technologies capturing emotional responses whose understanding usually requires physicians’ input, to low-cost self-help technologies for visualizing, exploring and regulating emotions.
Industrial Innovation (including innovation in services as well as products and processes)
Within the project duration of 3 years, the Department of Computer engineering of Bogazici University will develop mobile and wearable self-help technologies for capturing emotions and their regulation in real life. For example, personal electronic stress assistants will be developed which continuously monitor the stress level in daily life and proactively suggest how to better deal with stress.
Human capital development
Thanks to this Project, early stage researchers will be trained by very experienced researchers. By the end of the Project, 15 Phd students / researchers will have been trained up to 36 months in the related research topic. 2 of those researchers will be trained at Boğaziçi University.
