The project aims to develop and implement a business model that will increase the recycling percentage of composite materials used in the automotive, furniture and construction sectors.
The final product design which will increase the recycling rate; the development of the materials that will realize this design; and the manufacturing process will form the three main pillars of the project.
Tackling ‘grand’ or societal challenges
In Europe, 2.7 billion tons of waste were generated in 2010. Only 40% of this could be reused. This rate is much lower in the rest of the world. Most of the reused material consists of minerals. In addition to this recycling of plastic and wood raw materials is low. This project aims to increase the recycling of wood and plastic raw materials with the business model it will develop.
Industrial Innovation (including innovation in services as well as products and processes)
As a result of the project, eco-innovative product design is targeted. Accordingly, the final product will be redesigned to be eco-friendly, economical and easy to recycle by considering all the supplies.
Improvements targeting supply chains will also be made in the collection of waste materials and in the acquisition of these waste materials to the production process.
The provision of Improved Public Goods
If the model tried in the project is successful and can be put into practice in Turkey, it is evaluated that the composite material used in automotive, furniture and construction sector in Turkey will have a positive impact on the recycling rate.
The improved exercise of professional skill
The project will develop partnerships with leading European universities, chemical producers, composite producers, end product producers and stakeholders specializing in waste material management. By establishing links with strong research networks, it is aimed to develop know-how having a commercial value and new collaborations in scientific and technological field.
Human capital development
Along with the international project execution skills, these partnerships will provide serious knowhow transfer.
