Aim of the Project
The overall aim of ROADVIEW is to develop robust and cost-efficient in-vehicle perception and decision-making systems for connected and automated vehicles with enhanced performance under harsh weather conditions and different traffic scenarios.

Scientific/Social/Economic/Innovative Contribution
Connected and autonomous vehicles have the potential to transform transportation. To achieve its full potential, safety of autonomous driving systems should be verified under challenging conditions. Extreme weather conditions are especially challenging for such systems. Roadview aims to create perception and decision making systems that are robust to hars weather conditions for autonomous driving. By doing so, the project will help connected and autonomous vehicles reach its full potential of creating significant cost reductions, increasing safety and strengthening global supply chain.

Importance in Solving Global Problems

  •     Safety of road vehicles have always been a point of discussion. Through continious development of new safety features road vehicles improved their safety. Through widespread adoption of autonomous driving we are on the verge of eliminating road accidents completely. Roadview will tackle harsh weather conditions which is one of the most critical challenges for autonomous driving.
  •     Driver shortage has had a severe impact on supply chains. As it is harder to find long haul drivers, prices of goods and commodities are rising. Autonomous vehicles has the potential to eliminate such problem. To do so, such vehicles should operate under a wide range of weather conditions. Roadview aims to increase operational capabilities of autonomous vehicles by creating systems that can operate safely under  harsh weather condition

Industrial Innovation (including innovation in services as well as products and processes)

  •     Improved sensor and noise models
  •     Using noise filtering to improve detection of objects and vulnerable road users
  •     Enhanced sensing by using additional sensors, such as thermal camera and imaging RADAR
  •     Using adaptive sensor fusion and collaborative infrastructure-based perception for improving object and drivable area (free space) detection
  •     Improved localisation and use of HD map technology

Its Effect on Foreign Dependency and Current Account Deficit
Autonomous Driving Technologies promises to create substantial value for enterprises and users. Developing such technologies in Turkey means bringing in a great portion of this created value.

Contribution in Developing/Receiving Public Goods and Services
Enabling safer transportation wil increase prosperity of the public.
