While it is impossible to completely avoid all plant health challenges presented by global trade, travel and climate change, it is possible to optimise our strategies through collaboration and coordination. The Euphresco network has effectively coordinated phytosanitary research in Europe and has also attracted interest from outside Europe. However, its current structure and operations limit the full engagement of non-European members. A reflection on the role of Euphresco in the global plant health research context was needed in order to adapt the network's structure and operations to better serve a wider and more diverse membership. The EU-funded EUPHRESCO III project seeks to enhance national and regional phytosanitary research coordination and to set the foundations for global coordination.
