Tackling ‘grand’ or societal challenges
The aim was to reduce the adverse effects of nanomaterials used in inks and pigments. The grand challenge was to design suitable surface chemistry for nanomaterials used in the ink and pigment industry for their safe and sustainable use.
Industrial Innovation (including innovation in services as well as products and processes)
Development of safer nanomaterials used in inks and pigments.
Research-influenced changes in policy, agenda-setting
The route of toxicity for AgNPs and ZnO NPs was clarified, which can help to policy maker for decision making.
The provision of Improved Public Goods
Development of safer and more advanced inks and pigments.
The improved exercise of professional skill
The researchers involved with the project gained experience about the nanomaterial safety.
Human capital development
2 post-docs and 2 PhD students involved in the project.
