In the Mediterranean region, agricultural challenges persist due to limited scientific resources and infrastructure. High-Throughput Phenotyping (HTP), a crucial tool for crop improvement, remains underutilised due to this gap. Institutions in Turkey (EGE) and Cyprus (CYENS) lack the necessary expertise and resources to harness HTP’s full potential. To address this, the EU-funded PHENOWEX project aims to enhance scientific excellence and innovation capacity in HTP within these expanding countries, forging partnerships with leading European institutions like Wageningen Research and the National Research Council of Italy. Notably, the project bridges political divides, showcasing science diplomacy’s potency. Despite Cyprus-Turkey tensions, CYENS and EGE collaborate in a shared pursuit of agricultural advancement and regional innovation.
