EU-Turkey Co-operation on Research and Innovation: Launch Event of “Turkey in Horizon 2020” Project


Launch Event “Turkey in Horizon 2020” project (worth approx. Є2,75 million in total) will be held on 28th of January. The project is aimed to strengthen the capacity of Turkey in Science, Technology and Innovation and facilitate the integration of Turkish Research Area to European Research Area. TUBITAK is the beneficiary of “Turkey in Horizon 2020” Project which targets to increase the participation of Turkish organizations in the EU Framework Programme for the Research and Innovation: Horizon 2020. The project is co-financed by the EU and Republic of Turkey. The Contracting Authority of the project is Central Finance and Contracts Unit.

Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever with nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020) – in addition to the private investment that this money will attract. It promises more breakthroughs, discoveries and world-firsts by taking great ideas from the lab to the market. TUBITAK is the national coordinating body of EU Framework Programmes in Turkey.

H2020 Work Programmes for 2016-2017

Funding opportunities under Horizon 2020 are set out in multiannual work programmes, which cover the large majority of support available. The work programmes are prepared by the European Commission within the framework provided by the Horizon 2020 legislation and through a strategic programming process integrating EU policy objectives in the priority setting.

SMEs to benefit from secure online payment technology

The PAYPLUG LABS project addresses the needs of SMEs who wish to collect payments online,” explains project coordinator Camille Tyan, CEO of French start-up PayPlug. “What we are doing is developing a next-generation payment platform that reduces software integration costs by a factor of five and provides fraud protection thanks to modern statistical algorithms. In addition, new sophisticated technology will allow PayPlug to accurately detect risky vendors and at the same time register legitimate businesses rapidly.”

New IP indicators for 2015 by WIPO

This is a new publication by the World Intellectual Property Organization. The “World Intellectual Property Indicators 2015” report, provides a wide range of indicators covering the following areas of intellectual property: patents, utility models, trademarks, industrial designs, microorganisms and plant variety protection. It draws on data from national and regional IP offices, WIPO and the World Bank.
